What to Do After the Bra Size Calculator Gives You a Result
Turn your calculated bra size into a practical fitting-room plan using fit checks and nearby sister sizes.
A calculator result is a useful starting point, not a promise that every bra carrying that label will fit. Bodies, bra shapes and manufacturers all vary. The quickest way to turn your result into a comfortable fit is to test it systematically.
Start with the calculated size
Use the Bra Size Calculator with a firm underbust measurement and a relaxed standing bust measurement. Record the AU size and the UK, US and EU equivalents shown in the result. If you are shopping locally, begin with the AU label. When buying from an overseas brand, use the system printed on that brand’s own label rather than guessing from the store’s location.
Take three sizes into the fitting room
Try the calculated size plus two nearby sister sizes. If the result is 14D, a useful comparison set is 12DD, 14D and 16C. Those sizes hold a similar cup volume but distribute it across different band lengths. This makes it easier to separate a band problem from a cup problem.
Check the band before the cups
Fasten a new bra on its loosest hook. The band should sit level around your body and feel secure without making it hard to breathe. Lift your arms and move normally. If the band rides up, try the smaller sister size. If it feels sharply restrictive even when the cups are positioned correctly, try the larger sister size.
Settle all breast tissue into the cups
Lean forward slightly, guide tissue from the side into each cup, then settle the underwire or cup edge at the breast root. This simple adjustment can change how both the cups and band feel. Review the fit guide for a complete sequence.
Read the fit signs together
Wrinkling does not always mean the cup is too large, and spilling does not always mean only the cup is too small. Cup shape, strap tension and where the wire sits can change the result. Look for a level band, contained tissue, a centred front where the bra design allows it, and straps that stay in place without carrying all the support.
Wear the best candidate for a few minutes
Sit, bend, reach and walk. A bra that looks fine while standing still may rub or shift in normal use. If two sizes work, choose according to the fabric and intended use. A firm sports style may need a different choice from a soft everyday bra.
Your calculated size is evidence for the first fitting-room decision. The final answer is the size and style that remain comfortable and supportive in motion. For how the calculation works, see the methodology.
