AU to US Bra Size
Add 22 to the Australian band. The cup letter is the same up to D, then American naming diverges.

Band conversion is arithmetic and reliable. Cup naming is a convention that varies by brand – always check the retailer’s own chart before ordering.

Where the cup letters split
Up to and including D, Australian and American cups use the same letters. Above D, the American system historically added a third D rather than moving through the alphabet, and brands never agreed on what came next.

An Australian DD is usually labelled DD or E in the US. An Australian E is usually DDD or F. From F upwards the offset is generally one letter – AU F to US G, AU FF to US H – but some American brands continue with DDDD and beyond instead.
What to do in practice
- Convert the band first. It is reliable: AU 12 is US 34.
- Take the cup mapping as a shortlist, not an answer. If the chart says US G, expect to consider F, G and DDD.
- Open the retailer’s own size chart and look for a chart with centimetre or inch measurements, not just letters. Match to your measurements rather than your letter.
- Check the returns policy before ordering internationally – return postage from Australia to the US can exceed the value of the bra.
Check the fit, not just the label
A converted size is the size to try on first. Run the seven fit checks before deciding whether it worked, and note your sister sizes in case the band is off.
